Humidity Control

It is important for homes to have the right amount of humidity, which can be attained using the correct humidity control products. Excess moisture can lead to musty odors and mold and mildew, causing problems for indoor air quality. On the other end, low humidity causes dry skin and hair, increased susceptibility to colds and respiratory illness, aggravated asthma symptoms, and can allow viruses and germs to thrive. To avoid these, it is ideal to keep in-home humidity levels between 35% - 50% using humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Anything less than 30% is too dry, over 50% is too high. Try these steps to control the humidity in your home:
  • Use a humidity monitor or Hygrometer to measure humidity levels in your home. We recommend the AcuRite Indoor Humidity Monitor & Thermometer.
  • A dehumidifier helps to keep basements and crawlspaces from becoming damp and smelly as well as preventing mold and mildew. We recommend the Santa Fe Compact2 Dehumidifier.
  • Home humidifiers add moisture back into the air during cold winter months. We recommend the PureGuardian® H1510 100-Hour Ultrasonic Warm or Cool Mist Humidifier.
