Like all our bath and body products, this Vanicream Sunscreen is best known for what is not in it. It is free of preservatives, dyes, perfume, fragrance or masking fragrance, lanolin, formaldehyde, PABA and benzophenones. While all sunscreens protect your skin from the sun's burning UVB rays, Vanicream Sunscreens contains Zinc Oxide or Z-Cote HP1. This patented ingredient offers additional protection from the UVA I & II rays, which may contribute to skin damage and premature aging of the skin. Vanicream Sunscreen’s broad-spectrum protection also contains healing vitamin E, and it is safe to use on children down to 6 months of age. It is important to note that the SPF30 and SPF60 sunscreens are chemical-free and they physically block the sun's harmful rays with the additional ingredient Microfine Titanium Dioxide. FYI: SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends a minimum SPF of 15 and additional protection from UVA and UVB rays. The SPF number indicates how long you can stay in the sun with that sunscreen without burning. For example, a person that normally burns in 10 minutes when out in the sun without protection, could stay out 15 times longer (150 minutes) and not burn with a sunscreen SPF of 15. However, depending on the intensity of the heat, sunburns could occur in a much shorter time. Sunscreen should be applied generously 1/2 hour before going outdoors. In addition, sunscreen should be reapplied at least every 2 hours and after swimming or sweating. Sunscreen can help prevent short-term and long-term damaging effects of sunlight, but overexposure to the sun should be avoided even with sunscreen.
