Product Notes:

Our hassle-free Activated Charcoal Pre-Filters are ready-to-use with no measuring or cutting required. Each pre-filter will last for about 3 months depending upon the environment and are sold in a 2-Pack for a 6 month supply. One way to tell it is time to replace them is by the color. They are almost black to begin with and turn a light gray color when they need to be changed.
The Main HEPA Filter will last for 1 to 3 years depending upon the environment. The best way to tell it is time to replace your whirlpool filters is when your machine starts to pulsate. This means that the filter is full and air is having trouble being moved through the unit.

In all cases above, the time frames listed are estimates and depend largely upon the environment.

Marie - 1/12/12 22:18 pm Does a good job of filtering dust and cat hair (I have two cats). Doesn't last as long as claimed (I have to change the pre-filter every two weeks or so). My Whirlpool air purifier isn't that quiet, but I'm so used to it now that I can't sleep without it. I wish the HEPA filter wasn't so expensive so I could change it more often.

mem - 5/24/10 20:23 pm I've used both the Whirlpool brand pre-filters and the no-name ones and although there is a slight difference in the appearance of the products, I'm not sure there's a difference in performance. Both work quite well. I find the pre-filters do not last as long as they are supposed to, but that's because they are doing their job. It's kind of gross how much stuff they pick up and if you have carpet, you will notice a reduction in the amount of dust that comes up when you vacuum. Replacing the pre-filter more frequently if it looks dirty definitely seems to reduce my allergies.

The HEPA filter really does last a year, however, which is good, as it's expensive.

Marie - 5/10/10 14:57 pm This pre-filter does not seem to fit well on the air purifier. There is nothing to adhere it to the edges of the HEPA, so I taped it with duct tape on the edges. That said, it is obvious that the pre-filter does collect dust, as it is supposed to, and the entire HEPA-filtered unit does a good job of lowering the dust level in the room.

LC - 1/26/10 12:17 pm The internal and external replacement filters deliver great performance and are reasonably priced. Also, this Whirlpool unit is amazing.
